Congratulations Neil Duncan-Jordan, MP

At the recent general election we were delighted that after three recounts and a final majority of eighteen votes, Ian Duncan-Jordan, a local resident and representative of the Labour Party, was elected Member of Parliament for Poole.

Ian is well known to many members of the Retired Members Committee.  For a number of years he was National Officer of the National Pensioners’ Convention, to which we are affiliated.  He worked tirelessly for the group and earned our profound respect.  On one occasion he attended a Retired Members’ committee meeting to talk about his work.

More recently he became a Regional Officer for Unison and we met him at a number of demonstrations such as opposition to the HCC pension investment in fossil fuels, in Southampton opposing racism and on the picket line of our members’ strike at Winchester University.

On behalf of our committee I have written to Ian congratulating him on his victory.  We believe the electors of Poole are fortunate to have him as their representative in Parliament.  It is hoped that in some form his links with Unison will continue.
