Every year on 28th April, all around the world the trade union movement unites to mark International Workers Memorial Day. The purpose is to remember those who have lost their lives at work or from work-related injury and disease. Additionally, to renew our efforts to organise collectively to prevent more death, injuries and disease as a result of work.
International Memorial Workers Day is commemorated throughout the world and is officially recognised by the government.
We remember those we have lost.
Remember the dead, fight for the living.
A rally organised by Southampton Trades Council and Momentum was held this year near the Cenotaph in Southampton. Representatives of the community and trades unions attended, including Joe Hannigan, a member of the Hampshire Unison Retired Members Committee and additionally one of our Branch’s representatives on Southampton Trades Council. Joe is shown at the rally holding a banner to the right of the photograph.
