Thank you to outgoing Retired Member’s Chair, Diana Barnes – 8th May 2019

At the recent AGM of the Section, Diana Barnes informed us that after five years as Chair she wished to relinquish the post. Fortunately she will remain a member of the committee and be the organizer of social events.

Held by us all in high regard with her good humour and wisdom, she has been an inspirational leader. In what are clearly difficult times, her basic strategy has been to protect and develop the interests of Unison pensioners in Hampshire. To achieve this she has engaged with politicians and other trade unionists both locally and nationally, challenging and campaigning on issues such as protection of the Triple Lock state pension, bus passes and the NHS.

She has encouraged attendance by committee members at both regional and national conferences and demonstrations, not simply as observers but active participants. Further, she has sought to form closer bonds with the branch Executive.

Diana, thank you, and clearly you will be a hard act to follow.
